Zumjar

Zumjar is a spice native to rural regions of W'hoorn homeworld Benu Wen, where the zumjar fields can be smelled from miles around during harvest season. It grows on straight black stems known as canes, which are often dried and sold in bundles as useful construction materials for gardens and fences due to their strength and flexibility. Along the length of the stems, a series of nodules known as burrs appear throughout the hot season, cracking open rather spectacularly with a pop into bolls of a fibrous, fragrant and highly flavored strands of fiery copper-gold, resembling small knots of auburn hair (hence, it is often known as 'ginger').

The bolls can be eaten straight from the plant and have a sweet, fiery flavor, the fibers melting in the mouth like spicy cotton candy. Mostly, however, it is harvested and dried, and the resulting spice has a warmer and more rounded tone than it does fresh.

It is used in drinks, confectionery and cuisine the sector round, often mixed with other spices to create a warming and festive blend.
