The bumnuga is a massive percussion instrument, resembling a broad wooden hoop about two and a half meters tall. Taut, tanned vurbok hide, stripped of scales but still dramatically striped in green and orange, is stretched across the round sides, providing two surfaces capable of producing a deep, hollow booming noise. Often played by two Ry'nari at a time, the bumnuga was traditionally used as a method of scaring prey from the bushes, and is common at tribal ceremonies.
