A Skip Drive is a faster-than light-travel device utilized by starships that allows a spacecraft to instantaneously "skip" from one spatial coordinate to another by creating wormholes. Although much faster than linear drives and safer than light speed travel, the further apart the ends of the wormhole are the more exponentially expensive it is to create. Thus, most star farers use a combination of skip and linear drives to make their way across the cosmos in the most efficient manner: The skip drive essentially creating shortcuts through time-space while the linear drive propels the ship through them as fast as possible.
