Nayluufar

A flowering shrub native to Kovalar, the nayluufar is a popular plant for amateur botanists due to its minimal need for care and upkeep, and it is found in many spaces through the dense urban environments of cities like Janilyn. While young, the nayluufar is a bushy groundcover plant with dark green leaves, but once it matures and begins to flower, its leaves wrap tightly around each the base of each deep blue stem's apical bud, or blacken as they are lifted to cradle a developing bud. A bright blue pistil curls within the center of the budding flower, framed by layer upon layer of densely-packed and brilliantly colored emerald green petals.

While the flower itself is inedible, the black leaves that act as temporary sepals produce natural compounds intended to make the plant unappetizing to herbivorous animals, and as a result, are a commonplace seasoning in Shen cuisine. When dried and powdered, they are enjoyed for the peppery kick they add to dishes.
