A domestic crop of Kovalar, lulua bushes grow as dense hedges with very small leaves, which grow their chalky white beans inside densely-packed umbels of leaves for protection. Shaped like little white pearls, the lulua bean is a staple of many Shen diets - it can be milled as a starchy flour, roasted and crushed into a savory paste, or muddled and fermented into tofu.
