The bass guitar is similar in every way to a standard guitar, albeit acoustic versions of these are less common. However, the bass usually only has four strings, which are thicker than those on a guitar and so produce much lower-pitched notes. The bass guitar is often seen as an essential component of nanorock, dreamfunk, streampop and many other genres due to its ability to give depth, structure and rhythm to the music; both bolstering the percussive sounds of the music, and adding depth to the melodic parts.
