Deisk is a moon of the planet Sighaerd, which is located in the Lekknis system in Feral Space. Once a Celestine mining colony, it is now owned by a Shen corporation and considered a leisure planet.

Lekknis' star is a brown dwarf, a cold star that provides no heat; Sighaerd is an ice giant similar to Uranus and is the only planet in the system. There is a cluster of three small asteroids that also orbits the star, called the wild sisters, because they somehow stay together while orbiting erratically.

Several layers beneath the surface of Deisk are veins of rare metals. The moon's rough topography makes most of it inaccessible, but among the jagged peaks is a decomissioned mining operation, once operated by Celestine Ascendancy but sold off to an enterprising Shen realtor and now watched over by only a handful of Tukkav guards and bots.

Years ago, the mines were moderately productive, but the finances were tricky to balance due to the harsh conditions on the moon. Despite most of the mining being automated, living beings were still needed to maintain the equipment in extreme conditions, and the energy required to keep their habitations and workstations going was high. When it was discovered that the moon's core was hot, they dug further, below the mining veins, their goal to live and work underground, closer to the heat, and minimize their overhead expenses. It worked for a little while, but they dug too deep. Eventually one of the shafts broke through to a magma layer, causing a volcanic eruption and released deadly creatures from below: mekmavaurs whose natural environment is the magma, but apparently are able to move anywhere beneath the moon's surface without much trouble. They got a taste for flesh and became quite a problem, so the Celestine Ascendancy decided to finally back out of the deal.

The Shen invested heavily in patching up the damaged interior of the moon and converted the volcanic crater on the surface to a small resort where one can view the nearby planet and aurora, which is considered a particularly beautiful sight. Mercenaries are hired from time to time to keep the mekmavaur population down.
