Slang

Here are some slang words or phrases that are used in Starmourn, sometimes in place of words, such as common profanity.

General Slang

These are commonly used expressions found in cultures throughout the galaxy.

kithlicker - Used as a derogatory term by those who dislike the use of kith.

daka - excrement. E.g. "You are so full of zhudaka!" or "You dakahead!"

ventrat - Vermin that take refuge in vents and ducts. A low, despicable form of life. Substitute for 'asshole.'

spacedust - A mildly insulting term for someone without much experience or power.

flakk - A generic expression akin to 'fuck.' "Flakk you", "Flakking Nabia", etc.

trepling - A trepling is a small insect that has spread to many planets via infesting cargo. It's like a mosquito - disliked by all. Used as we use 'bitch.'

void - An adjective combined with various words to form insults. Voidsucker, voidhead, voidface, and so on.

bala - Means 'strength' in Elessi and is also the name of one of the three supermassive black holes in orbit around the Atman of the Ishvana. It's a substitute for how we would use the word 'hell' to emphasize a quality about something. For instance, "She's tough as bala" or "His ship is fast as bala." Only to be used to emphasize qualities where strength or power is a good thing. You wouldn't say, "She's beautiful as bala" for instance.

telas - Means 'splendor' in Elessi and is also the name of one of the three supermassive black holes in orbit around the Atman of the Ishvana. It's used, like bala, to emphasize a quality about someone, but it's used for any situation where 'bala' doesn't make sense. For instance, "She's cute as telas" or "That ventrat is quiet as telas."

bushie - Referring to the Bushraki, it means someone or something who is in poor condition, messed up, or unstable. "That ship is pretty bushie..." "After a night of drinking, Tecton looked bushie as heck."

groundsider A dismissive term akin to 'redneck' used by spacers to refer to people who are basically stuck on one planet by virtue of lack of resources. Some groundsiders embrace the term, others strongly dislike it.

Racial and Regional

These terms and phrases are used by specific races, societies, and cultures.

Sweetmeat - A W'hoorn word, derogatory. Typically used for non-W'hoorn. Essentially means you look like food.

Strong teeth, sharp nose - a common Ry'nari phrase. Similar to 'good luck'.

Sand-boned - a Krona insult. Implies the target is weak and frail, and will also die in the desert. ex. "That sand-boned kithlicker wouldn't last a day out there."

Fleshneck - a Bushraki insult. A derogatory term for any non-Bushraki.
