Pinniluna

Native to Paperweight, the pinniluna is a tusked semi-aquatic mammal who hunts fish in arctic lakes and seas, using its flippers and tail to achieve incredible speeds. Despite its underwater alacrity, it is poorly adapted for movement over land, leaving it more or less helpless to terrestrial hunters. As a result, the pinniluna gather in large family groups, huddling together for warmth in inclement weather or sunning themselves while keeping watch for danger, allowing them to make a quick escape to the water if threatened.

Locals have taken to patrolling pinniluna territories to protect them from poachers and overhunting, because while support has grown for reputable belaul farriers, their pelts and ivory can still fetch a considerable price from less scrupulous merchants.
