A domestic crop of Kovalar, the fist-sized and tan-colored baya melon grows on a long and leafy groundcover vine that has adapted well to hydroponic towers. Its rind is hard, but its hollow interior is full of goopy yellow pulp and tiny black seeds. While the pulp is mellow and sweet with a certain minerality, and is widely used for its texture and flavor, its seeds have a sharp, peppery taste that make them popular as a seasoning.
