Pyrri

A woody intertidal groundcover plant found all around the Shaadryan Sea of planet Rama, the pyrri plant grows as an interconnected series of thick woody roots and stems that trail short thread-like leaves, which shoots up conical turquoise flowers from its tallest stems when the fruiting season approaches. It secretes a very salty nectar solution from the center of the flower, which it uses to force its pollen to rapidly cling to any creature that disturbs them, enabling them to spread so widely across the planet.

Early ancestors of the modern pyrri simply cast off their many conical flowers to sail across the waves in search of other seaside colonies, and while the pyrri of today have no need for that method of propagation, their relatively fewer flowers continue to fall, floating on the waves each year as they grow hard, poisonous nuts in their place.
