Native to [[Ylneri]], the '''octopus''' is a small fleshy cephalopod with eight legs and a rounded head supported by a shaft of cartilage, giving every movement it makes a liquid, effortless grace. Its limbs are able to move independently of one another, lashing eagerly out after prey or shelter according to its needs. It is a shy and cunning creature, with no natural defenses to its soft body other than chromatophore pigments in its skin that allows it to change color and pattern to better hide itself.

As the planet Ylneri is off-limits to offworlders, it is almost impossible to find extant specimens of the octopus outside of [[Ixodon]]-controlled worlds. The conservation group [[GCEPS]] has been able to acquire one, and they have been open with sharing their access to it with authorized persons wishing to study the creatures further.
